Shahidi described the US-Israel goal of the 33-day war as an evil one, and noted; “They intended to draw a new political plan by eliminating Hezbollah in Lebanon, in which there was no resistance movement.”
Radio Goftogoo had a phone call interview with Farzan Shahidi, an Iranian expert on West Asia affairs about the 33-day war in 2006.
Farzan Shahidi referred to the 15th anniversary of the 33-day war and said; “This war ended in accordance with the UN Security Council Resolution. Israel lost this war because it couldn’t achieve the goals it had set at the beginning.”
“There were major goals for the attack on Lebanon, and those were not related to the Zionist regime alone, since there was the full support of the United States politically, militarily, and by propaganda. Their goal was to get rid of Hezbollah and the resistance in the region,” he added.
In his interview with Radio Goftogoo, Shahidi pointed out the US former Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice remarks. Over this war, she mentioned that it would be a new birth in the Middle East and a baby will be born under the name of the New Middle East. By eliminating Lebanon's Hezbollah, they intended to draw a new political map in which there was no resistance and Israeli domination of the region was determined.
He described the US-Israeli goal of the 33-day war as an "evil goal" and stated; “The enemies could not achieve their goals due to the courageous resistance of Hezbollah and the Lebanese people, and they suffered heavy defeats. It’s not what the resistance claims. The Israelis themselves formed a post-war committee that officially declared Israel had lost the 33-day war, and blamed their former Prime minister for the defeat.”
Shahidi then spoke of Hezbollah strategic increase of power compared with 2006; “Hezbollah was also fully prepared at the time and upset the security balance with the rocket attacks it carried out inside Israeli cities. This superiority came at a time when the war was completely asymmetric.”
