In an interview with Radio Goftogoo, Nima Rezaei stated that Saad Hariri came to power with the aim of eliminating the resistance movement in Lebanon’s political arena; “Hariri's resignation and gain of power by another politician may soon be expected.”
Radio Goftogoo's "Without Scrawl" program had a phone call interview with Dr. Nima Rezaei, an expert on West Asia affairs, about Lebanon’s political situation.
Nima Rezaei referred to the last year explosion in Beirut port and said; “Just as before, the Hebrew, Arab and Western axes were intent on taking full advantage of the incident. Thus Saudi Arabia, France and the United States seized the opportunity to put the resistance under pressure.”
Explaining about the current of events after the explosion, he said; “Initially, Lebanon’s Hezbollah was accused, this was while they basically had no role in running the port. then Macron traveled to Lebanon. During his visit, the French president tried to support the emergence of a government closer to the West, and in this regard, Saad Hariri was considered, while a few months ago this person resigned due to his incompetence.”
This expert pointed out Western, Arab and Hebrew-centric efforts to eliminate Hezbollah in Lebanon “They tried to establish a unified, technocratic government in Lebanon, contrary to the Taif agreement, but they failed.”
He then explained the reason for Western and Saudi goals failure in Lebanon; “The Lebanese people haven’t had good memories of Saad Hariri. During his time, there were widespread protests throughout the country, which resulted in his resignation as the prime minister.”
Rezaei emphasized that through appointing Saad Hariri, the elimination of resistance movement and pro-resistance parties in the Lebanese political arena was intended; “According to the Taif agreement, divisions have been made in the political arena in Lebanon. By appointing Saad Hariri as the country’s prime minister, they intended to break up those divisions. In practice, however, it became clear that Hariri’s government would not be successful because their main goal was to eliminate the movements rooted in Lebanon.”
Rezaei then stated that the resignation of Saad Hariri and the appointment of another is to be expected; “One of the options is Mr. Mikati, who, if he takes into account the realities in Lebanon, regards the problems and tries to solve them, he will gradually succeed. But if he proceed with previous political trend and the pressure on the resistance lasts, he will not have a better fate than Saad Hariri, which means, defeat.”
