Radio Goftogoo’s “Without Scrawl” had a phone call interview with Dr. Abbas Aslani, an expert on international affairs regarding the Vienna talks.

Abbas Aslani pointed out the published news of the Vienna talks and mentioned; “Apparently the negotiation process is slow as expected, but it is moving forward. From the beginning, the issue was what to put on the agenda, and the parties sought to bring their mental geographies closer to eachother.”

He explained that serious talks are held between the parties regarding the list of disputes; “If the European parties cooperate as well, we may hope to reach a preliminary agreement on the dispute and begin to negotiate the serious matters.”

In this interview with Radio Goftogoo, the international affairs expert said that as we negotiate, the Western media and American officials are threatening Iran; “These media and officials generally try to put pressure on Iran by setting deadlines so that we sign the contract faster. Such positions were not really to the benefit of negotiations atmosphere.”

Concerning the reasons for the American officials’ media and verbal threats, Aslani said; “The European and American sides think that unlike those negotiations held before the JCPOA, Iran is empty-handed in the nuclear field, and therefore they’re trying to create a chaotic atmosphere to press the Iranian negotiating team and in this way, they can gain some concessions.”

Aslani emphasized that the United States and Europe didn’t cooperate well in the negotiations for lifting sanctions; “The Iranian team emphasizes that Iran will return to its obligations if the other side is committed to the JCPOA provisions and the lift of sanctions.”

The international affairs expert, meanwhile, noted that we shouldn’t hasten to judge the talks results, saying that the West was trying to impose maximum pressure on Iran, using it as a bargaining tactic to gain more concessions; “The Westerners seem to be trying to get maximum concessions from Iran, some of which are even beyond those agreed upon in the JCPOA, but at the same time they do not have the flexibility to lift sanctions.”
