The deal will happen if the sanctions are terminated

A political commentator told Radio Goftogoo that the only way of being optimistic towards the possible deal between Iran and the 4+1 is for the sanctions to be removed and the verification process to be applied.

Political Analyst Abbas Aslani had joined the “Rooydad” Show to discuss the latest meeting session between the 4+1 and the US without Iran. “These sessions are held regularly. During the previous round of talks issues related to Iran’s nuclear commitments were discussed so Iran was a side to the talks.”

He added that Iran has shown enough cooperation. “During the latest round of talks the issue of the sanctions, verification, and acquirement of guarantees was discussed; after that, we assume that a judgment can be made regarding the possible change in the behavior of the other side of the table.”

Aslani believes that the other side of the negotiations was in coordination with the people who’re basically against the talks; therefore, in the next 10 days, an accurate evaluation could be made.

He also said that commitments are like a weight on a scale, where the balance should be maintained. If it’s not achieved then we cannot expect a deal.

“The problem is that the West is watching the JCPOA according to their point of view only. They’ve focused on nuclear commitments while Iran believes that the topic of the sanctions is of crucial importance. Without removal of the sanctions, the JCPOA is meaningless to Iran.

Aslani said that Iran’s previous negotiating team was active on the nuclear issue while neglecting the topic of the sanctions. “They just conveyed the message of the establishment.”

He pointed out that the delay in the discussions reduced the pace of the talks which was also complemented by the moves of the Europeans, especially the French. “Today the other side is calling for the acceleration of the process but they must understand that any development is a direct result of their actions. Perhaps, Iran had offered its suggestions in written and documented which increased the pace of the talks. The West no more can blame Iran for any delay.”

Abbas Aslani continued that any progress in the current phase of the discussions is directly related to the sanctions regime because the West had some excessive demand while neglecting the calls for removal of the sanctions. “If they change their attitude, a deal will be within reach.”
