Radio Goftogoo's "Without Scrawl" program had a phone call interview with Abbas Aslani, the Iranian international affairs expert regarding the interruption in Vienna talks and the media's attempt to influence the talks.

Abbas Aslani described the eighth round of negotiations in Vienna as intensive, remarking that the two sides had discussed almost all technical talks and reached a stage where they needed a political decision. Because the issues raised in the negotiations are mainly related to sanctions, the Western parties have to make a serious political decision.

He referred to the remarks of the British Foreign Secretary and the threat of Iran to take other decisions if necessary, and said; “Since the Westerners are under pressure to make a decision, they try to project with such statements, and in a way they try to create a media and psychological atmosphere against Iran and the negotiating team in order to gain more advantages, however the Iranian team made it clear that such statements do not affect their work and that the negotiations should continue according to the established principles.”.

In his interview with Radio Goftogoo, the Iranian international affairs expert noted that the talks have already reached an important stage; “The West must accept the removing of sanctions, which includes US sanctions after the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). These sanctions run 1,700 cases, and all of them have to be removed. The significant point is that lifting sanctions must be verified and effective in practice, and sanctions cannot be lifted without verification.”

Regarding the US guarantee to stay committed to the JCPOA and the possibility of Americans withdrawal from a possible agreement in the future, Aslani said; “Over a phone call conversation with his French counterpart, the Iranian President noted that verification for the lift of sanctions and the United States’ guarantee for being committed to the tact remains the basis of any agreement.”

Regarding the Americans position that the agreement may be violated again with the change of government in the United States, he emphasized; “If we take such a remark as a principle, Iran can also claim that the current trend will change with the change of government in the Islamic Republic. At any rate, this is a domestic problem of the United States, and they can solve it themselves.”
