Radio Goftogoo had a phone call interview with Massoud Barati, an expert on international affairs, about the IAEA Director General’s visit to Tehran.

Massoud Barati stated that there are issues between Iran and the IAEA, and Rafael Grossi came to Tehran to follow up those issues; “The new Iranian government's approach in the nuclear field is in line with the pursuit of national interests, and some of the cases that Grossi pursued contradicted our benefits.”

He explained that what Iran was committed to do regarding the monitoring inspections under the JCPOA, is not to be continued after the US withdrawal of the JCPOA; “Given that the US and Europe ceased to fulfill their commitments, Iran stopped to do so as well, and this is a law passed by the Islamic Consultative Assembly.”

In this interview with Radio Goftogoo, pointed out Grossi's remarks and said; “Such remarks indicate that the IAEA deviated from its technical and legal path and went wrong on fulfilling its duties. The Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency insisted that Iran should continue to cooperate with the IAEA Board under the JCPOA, but this doesn’t make sense since the JCPOA came to a stop.”

He then stated that the US internationally illegal acts in withdrawing of the JCPOA led to the termination of the nuclear deal; “The United States imposed even more sanctions on Iran since the conclusion of the JCPOA, thus the IAEA's request in observing the deal’s limitations isn’t considered rational.

Barati added; “The cooperation which existed under the monitoring framework is being carried out as before. What matters is whether Grossi reflects this fact correctly and announces it in his press conference. Whatever happens at the meeting of the IAEA Board of Governors will have a very tangible and objective effect on the negotiations that will begin on November 29th.

The Iranian international affairs expert continued: "Iran has entered this round of negotiations with a new and serious look to lift the oppressive sanctions, and if the IAEA's acts negatively, it will naturally affect the negotiations.”
