Many people in Ukraine are settling personal accounts by the weapons supplied to the public by Ukrainian government, instead of offering resistance to the Russian forces, pointed out Iranian political expert Ruhollah Modabber in an interview with Radio Goftogoo.
He referred to the pre-conditions set by Russia for talks with the Ukrainian leadership to resolve the crisis, saying “This morning, a Russian plane was reportedly targeted by the Ukrainian forces, resulting in increase in the level of tensions.”
Regarding the complete blockade of Ukraine by the Russian army, Modabber said, “Tensions created by the West is the cause of the present situation.
Meanwhile, France believes the current war would drag on as weapons start pouring into Ukraine. Last week, French President Emmanuel Macron had spoken about supply of lethal weapons.
The Iranian political expert, however, dismissed as propaganda and bluff the talk that Ukraine is planning to start a new phase in the war.
Referring to Russia’s destruction of Ukrainian defences including a significant portion of NATO’s weapons stored in arsenals, he said, “When the Russian were ready to negotiate, France has suddenly stepped in and provoked Ukraine into refusing negotiations and this led the war to enter a new phase.”
Ruhollah Modabber took note that Ukrainian people have ignored the appeals of their government for mobilizing against the Russians and that is why most of the provinces have surrendered without any resistance.
Instead, he said the proliferation of weapons in the capital have made many people to settle personal accounts, and according to reports, even shops are being attacked.
Modaber deplored the attitude of some Iranian newspapers and called them “more Catholic than the Pope” for their criticism of Russia without mentioning the role of the United States in fanning the flames of war.
He concluded, “After the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, the United States promised Russia that the new republics would not be included in NATO. Soon, however, we saw that not only the new republics were added to NATO, which has now advanced eastward to the borders of Russia in some of these republics. This is indeed a threat to the Russians.”
