An Iranian expert on international affairs says that in view of the hostility of certain quarters towards the ongoing negotiations in Vienna, the partial news blackout of the proceedings will prevent sabotage and negative influence.
Dr. Jalal Fayyazi in his interview with the “Rouydad” programme of Radio Goftogoo said the analysis presented by political experts on the trend of the Vienna negotiations are merely based on the comments made by the journalists of both sides, as there is limited news coverage of the actual discussions.
On the hostility of certain parties towards the negotiations with Iran, he said: “It is better the current silence continues until the final result since this will prevent interference and negative influence on the talks.”
The Iranian expert added that the Vienna talks are almost in the final stage, noting that Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman, Saeed Khatibzadeh, had earlier announced that disagreements remain on two or three topics which need to be resolved.
On the demand made by Russia and China as well for a written guarantee from the United States, Fayyazi said: “Moscow and Beijing had called on Washington for a (written) guarantee to continue their economic relations with Tehran, without any interference and disturbance.”
He said: “One of the most important issues under focus in the Vienna talks is the return of the US to the Joint Comprehensive Plan Of Action (JCPOA) and its commitments towards Iran. The next issue after this will be verification (of the withdrawal of sanctions), in addition to written guarantee that the nuclear agreement will not be breached again by the US (as Donald Trump did).”
He said: “In Vienna, Iran has stated clearly that it will not agree to anything less or more than the JCPOA. Iran wants transparency in the verification process (of the removal of sanctions) and guarantees from the US (against breach).”
In conclusion, Dr. Jalal Fayyazi said he believes the guarantees demanded by two of Iran’s trading partners (Russia and China) from the US will help materialize the Islamic Republic’s demands and guarantees, sooner than expected.
