Iranian Parliament’s National Security Commission’s spokesperson Mahmood Abbaszadeh Meshkini told our host that the Assembly has quite a clear stance regarding the nuclear talks and the law of the special strategic measures speaks for itself.

“If the West stops abiding by its commitment, Iran also won’t remain committed one-sidedly and will suspend its obligations.”

Abbaszadeh also said that the special strategic measure act was passed in October 2020 and it was the only bill that was cleared by the parliament during the last few years which had addressed the Nuclear issue.

“Mr. Rohani had reiterated that all of the sanctions will be lifted after the implementation of the nuclear deal but it didn’t happen during the last few years. Not only the sanctions didn’t come to an end but were also followed by many more; especially during the Trump’s rule.”

Abbaszadeh also said that a reaction from Parliament to the West’s endless greed was inevitable. “The More cooperation we had, the more pressure we had to bear.”

He said according to the constitution, the only authority to interpret the law passed by the Parliament is the Guardian Council and this special act has been reinstated by this Council and the Government is obliged to enforce it without any delay.

Abbaszadeh Meshkini added: “We didn’t expect the President to make such a dispersing statement; accepting a defeat and exploring the reasons behind it in a natural and a rational attitude which was unexpected from the premier of the country.”

He pointed out the fact that so far six rounds of negotiations have taken place without any outcome. “Both the parties have presented the level of their expectations while a team of experts of Islamic Republic of Iran compares the expectations of the West with Iran’s national interest and red lines.”

Abbaszadeh further said that if the West respects the mutual interests then they should not expect us to remain as an accused party; nevertheless, they’ve always judged us before and after the JCPOA was signed.

“If they do not respect their commitments then they can’t have the negotiation table and the pressure tool at the same time.”

Abbaszadeh Meshkini emphasized the fact that the US needs the talks more than Iran. “We have raised some points which are rational and are accepted by the entire world.”

“If the West believes in the concept of the mutual interest, then we’re ready for the talks too.”
