Political analyst Rasool Shabibi says that the US has brought devastation to Iraq but now the time has come for the Iranian engineers to reconstruct this country.
In our latest episode of political show “Bedoune Khat-Khordegi”, we discussed the Iraqi Prime Minister’s official visit to Iran with political analyst Rasool Shabibi.
Pointing out this trip’s importance he said that the two countries have deep historical and cultural ties beside a long history of communication.
He further said that the geopolitical position of both the countries has underlined the importance of their relations as well. “Regional developments and the status of the Islamic Republic of Iran as a big power has been an advantage for this country. Other regional and trans-regional players are also attracted to Iran’s capabilities.”
Rasool Shabibi pointed out the Iraqi Prime Minister’s second trip to Tehran during the past two years saying: “Al-Kazemi led a high profile team during his visit which is a clear indication of the great relations enjoyed by both the countries. A variety of topics were discussed during the bilateral meetings especially those related to the banking, pilgrimage trips, agriculture, energy, environment and security co-operation.”
He also said that the common security threats, thwarting terrorist activities, sustainable development and relations with neighbor states were among the discussed subjects. “It shows the importance of the Iraqi Prime Minister’s visit to Iran.”
Shabibi also raised the importance of the technical cooperation in the field of engineering projects saying: “Iraq has been devastated by the US presence; they lost most of their infrastructure due to occupation and now they’re in dire need of urban development, hydro-projects and civil services.”
He further explained that players like Turkey can enter the Race with Iran in reconstructing this country but the vast borders between Iran and Iraq and competitive prices offered by Tehran can be a head start for the Iranians and a matter of attraction for the other side. “Therefore, if these opportunities are well-received it can become a great chance for the technical and engineering sector of the Islamic Republic of Iran.”
