Ebrahimi asl stated that Iran is the biggest oil and gas producer in the world according to the total production volume and on the other hand, Russian and Chinese progress is applicable only when they’ve access to the Iranian oil and gas and other energy resources.
Iran’s former Deputy Minister of Petroleum Asghar Ebrahimi Asl had joined a discussion panel on the economic, political and security benefits of Iran joining the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) held in the head office of the Mehr News Agency.
Asghar Ebrahimi Asl believes that before this, all the efforts made by the Iranian diplomats during the past two decades to bring in support for Iran’s membership in this organization didn’t bear any result; “At last, during the Dushanbe summit, All the members decided to change Iran’s status from an observer to a permanent member.”
He added that Iran has the largest production of oil and gas in total and Chinese and the Russians need it to continue on with their development plans; “They are in need of Iranian energy, so accepting Iran’s request for membership isn’t a favor at all.”
Ebrahimi Asl also pointed out the importance of the 25 years Iran- China strategic roadmap saying it had to be signed earlier. “We must sign such deals with Russia and other neighbor countries too.”
He called the “One Belt One Road” an opportunity for creating corridors towards new sources of wealth.
According to Ebrahimi Asl a separate chapter on the energy sector has been narrated beside the transport articles in the above mentioned mega plan. New technologies, Aerospace, Quantum economy, Microbiology and many more subjects are considered to be among the other fields of cooperation between Iran and China.
“For example we have always been among the top 4 countries in the field of Nano-technology and if a Nano-tech based economy is created then we can benefit from it financially too.”
He also added that according to the 25 years of strategic cooperation plan between the two countries, Iran will turn into an energy hub where one hundred and fifty thousand megawatts of electricity will be transited through Iran to other countries of the region.
Iran’s former Deputy Petroleum Minister further pointed out that more than two hundred thousand medicines and products are made from Oil and Gas.
“While maintaining our ideological limits, Iranians and the Russians can export their energy to countries like China and India.”
He said that there are some common members between Shanghai Cooperation Council and Brics group like India, Russia which can facilitate Iran’s access to new markets like South Africa and Brazil.
