Spokesperson of the Iranian Armed forces, General Abolfazl Shekarchi who had joined our “Karaneye Asheqi” show has said that the Sacred Defense has Guaranteed the Revolution and the Islamic Republic system in Iran. “The imposed war intensified the immunity of the Iranian nation who had constantly been on the target of the world’s arrogant powers.”
“There is a wrong notion that this war was fought between Iran and Iraq, which isn’t an accurate term; because all the super powers were involved in this war and assisted the Ba’ath Party of Iraq and attacked us furiously.”
Shekarchi added that we had raised the flag of oneness which the Eastern and Western blocks considered as a sin. “According to them pursuing the goal of independence, freedom and having an Islamic Republic was an unforgivable misdeed.”
The spokesperson of the armed forces also said that our nation was attacked because they had decided to stand on their own foot. “Our youngsters and the elderly decided to defend their country and put forward whatever they had to reach this goal.”
General Shekarchi pointed out the emotional connection between the people and the soldiers during the war saying: “A small girl had sent an empty can of food to the front with a letter attached to it which read: I couldn’t find anything which I could afford to send to you, so I posted this empty can; you may use it as a glass. The girl wanted to have a share in defending her country. The soldiers lined up to drink from that glass.”
He recalled another case where an elderly woman had sent 4 eggs for the soldiers, while it was all she had or another mother who had sent his only son to the front so the country and the revolution would succeed.
“Whenever the nation felt they had to stand for their belief, they offered whatever they were in possession of.”
There were mothers who couldn’t withstand a single moment of separation between them and their children but sent 4 or 5 of their sons to the front so the revolution and the principles would remain safe. He called it an extra-ordinary era which resulted in a powerful Iran setting itself free from the barriers created by the outsiders.
“Saddam had aligned itself with the arrogant powers of the world and enjoyed the support of the Eastern and the Western bloc; while today, all his legacy has come to an end.
