Member of the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of the Parliament, Shahriar Heydari has told us that the ex-Foreign Minister’s acknowledgment regarding his unawareness of the word “Suspension” in the JCPOA text, will be discussed in this commission.

During our latest episode of the “Rooydad” show, Shahryar Heydari said that the negotiations for the Nuclear Deal have far stretched from 2015 till now, which is the reason behind the variety of reactions and interpretations towards this deal.

“So far, we’ve not reached any conclusion and it’s because of the ever-lasting negotiations and the embargoes which were imposed by creating excuses.” He said.

Heydari stressed that based on the fact that Iran hasn’t benefitted from this deal, it can be said that the JCPOA was suspended as a whole, up to this date. “From 2015 till now, the Nuclear Deal didn’t have any outcome, while during the few sit-ins with Mr. Zarif and his deputies in the Parliament, he insisted on JCPOA’s success.”

He added that Zarif and his team asserted that in case of the establishment’s agreement, all the sanctions will be terminated; While he enjoyed the establishment’s support but he wasn’t able to bring the negotiations to conclusion.

“Previously, it was stated [by the Government] that the JCPOA will bring all the sanctions to an end but now, they say that if we continue to negotiate, the sanctions will be lifted.”
Member of Parliament Shahriyar Heydari recalled the previous lessons from the Nuclear deal saying: “Today, Mr. Zarif has admitted that the “suspension” was the topic of the discussion, which is due to the behavior of the West.”

He further said that without making any judgment towards the statements made by the ex-Foreign Minister, a political game was played by the western side of the deal especially the Americans. “They only suspended the deal; We should learn a lesson and use it for the future of the JCPOA.”

Heydari added that if such a behavior is omitted by the other parties, the Establishment must change its strategy towards the negotiations; we must continue on with our verification process which is the only possible solution for the JCPOA.

“Other parties to the Nuclear Deal, usually play a word game with the “Suspension” and “lift” terminologies, so they can put an impression on the negotiations and its possible results.”

MP Heydari pointed out that the minister of foreign affairs has been asked to report the latest developments regarding the nuclear scene and a team of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was invited to the Parliament in the past week, too.

He reiterated that one of the duties of the National Security Commission is to study the Nuclear Deal and its developments; therefore, the latest acknowledgment by the ex-Foreign Minister is an issue that will be raised during our official meetings.
