Political analyst has told Radio Goftogoo that the standoff between Iran and the IAEA is the biggest challenge ahead.
In our latest episode of the Rooydad show, Expert of international politics Nozar Shafiei presented his analyses regarding Head of the IAEA, Grossi’s official trip to Iran and his bilateral meeting with the President of the Iranian Atomic Energy Organization. “Mr. Grossi had declared that he will engage in a serious discussion with the Iranian officials.”
Shafiei said that despite the non-accessibility of the meeting details, challenges between the IAEA and Iran are tangible.
First of all, after the US left the JCPOA, Iran retreated from the extra protocols of the Non-Proliferation Treaty as well as the extra safeguard verifications, in a reciprocal move.
Besides that, Iran has planned its expansion programs in line with the national master plan, which will be pursued accordingly.
Shafiei added that the above mentioned issues have turned into a matter of concern for the IAEA. They expect explanations from Iran for not implementing the extra protocols and Enrichment of a higher level.
He also emphasized on the issue of the targeted explosions in the Iranian nuclear sites saying: “Such incidents force us to take some extra measures to maintain the security of our centers; while some quarrels have happened with the inspectors while implementing these measures. These inspectors are violating their limits and getting involved in some non-technical issues.”
Nozar Shafiei further said that in the next few days the Nuclear Talks will resume; on the other hand the Board of Governors is kicking off a meeting and Mr. Grossi is using these news as a pressure tool against Tehran.
“IAEA is expecting Iran’s cooperation on those issues which Iran is not to blamed for.”
Shafiei believes that IAEA must find a solution for these problems independently. He said that the US has left the deal one-sidedly while Iran has just reacted to Washington’s non-compliance. “Now, the Agency is blaming Tehran for this matter. Instead of performing their duty as a nuclear technical inspector, they’ve turned into a tool of political pressure.”
Nozar Shafiei pointed out that despite all the difficulties Iran has shown its goodwill to solve such issues.
He also mentioned Grossi’s official visit to Iran and said that the hidden connection between the IAEA and the UN must be explained while we’re facing a never ending story between the nuclear watchdog and the JCPOA too.
The Agency has reached a deal with the UN to report the nuclear activities of all member states to this body and ensure that they do not deviate towards a military nuclear program.
If the IAEA refers a file to the Security Council of the UN, then it’s assumed that the country has violated the world peace and is dragged under the seventh chapter of the United Nations Charter.
“Despite the fact that the US has left the Nuclear Deal and turned it into a dead body, The IAEA is still after the verification process and is reporting the activities of Iran.”
In this context, if the IAEA reports against us, the process of the negotiations will change its course negatively and Iran’s case will be referred to the Security Council or at least a heavy pressure will be developed against our country, during the talks.
