An Iranian Parliamentarian has stated that the decisions made by the other party of the nuclear negotiations will decide the destiny of the talks.
In our latest episode of program “Ba Sokhangooyan” we had invited Mahmoud Abbaszadeh Meshkini, the spokesperson for the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission. Abbaszadeh explained his commission’s position regarding the new round of talks in Vienna and emphasized that Iran has taken a clear stance towards these negotiations. He also said that according to the JCPOA, the Western party of the deal was supposed to lift the sanctions after Iran’s compliance is ensured; “but they ignored their commitments.”
Abbaszadeh Meshkini also said that after the Americans violated the deal, Parliament passed a law regarding a gradual halt to the extra commitments which Iran had accepted under the NPT. It was anticipated that such moves will bring the Western Powers to the negotiation table.
He further emphasized on Iran’s clear stance regarding the nuclear topic and said that the ball is in the court of 4+1. “They’ve betrayed Iran before; so this time, their decision will set the destiny of the new rounds of the talks.”
Abbaszadeh believes that the Western side must provide enough guarantees for the US’s return to the deal and its commitment and compliance. “They must guarantee that the Americans won’t leave the deal again.”
He reiterated that the previous commitments made by the western side, should also be addressed and clear and practical verifications should be provided.
“Iran has successfully thwarted the maximum pressure policy and now the Western Powers must decide. Iran won’t allow the other negotiators to turn the talks into a lengthy process.”
Abbaszadeh believes that an erosive talk is pursued by the Western side because they’ve assumed that Iranian economy has become conditional to their decisions. “Adversely, the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran has decided to manage the country according to indigenous capabilities; therefore, the JCPOA, negotiations and even a deal with the Western countries is considered as a secondary or a side priority of the country.
He further stated that Iran is well prepared for the negotiations and the other signatories to the JCPOA must remain answerable.
