Expert of international Politics says that the US has come to this conclusion that they can ask Iran for more limitations; if Iran decides otherwise, Washington will announce that the negotiations have failed and Iran is to be blamed.
During our latest episode of the “Goftogooye Siasi” program, a discussion was held for analyzing the Vienna Talks and the necessities and expectations of Iran from these dialogues. University professor and Expert of international politics Dr. Foad Izadi had joined us in this conversation through a telephone call.
Foad Izadi told our host that the US and Europe have reached coordination on the topic of the JCPOA. “This coordination was one the targets of the Biden administration. There was a disagreement between them which led to a split, but today an arrangement is visible which can be seen in the joint statement of the European Troika after Grossi’s trip to Iran.
He said that the US has surpassed the current nuclear deal. “The Europeans are also thinking about it but have not joined the US yet. They are interested in the JCPOA serving their interests. Wendy Sherman who’s the Deputy Secretary of State of the US had stated that 2021 is not 2015. Iran owned 10 tons of enriched Uranium and the Arak Reactor; we don’t have them anymore. Although we started some developments during the past few months, our capabilities at those times were on another level.”
He further said that the US doesn’t have the concerns it had in 2015 anymore. They took many advantages of the Nuclear Deal in that year and the years after; “it seems they’re enjoying its taste so they’re asking for more.”
Dr. Foad Izadi pointed out the American demand of having a more powerful deal with Iran and said that according to Americans, a more powerful deal is the one that includes a wide array of the Iranian Domestic and International policies and Military capabilities besides the Nuclear Deal.
“It seems that the US assumes that they can ask for more from Iran; If the Iranians reject the demands made by Washington, they’ll announce the failure of the deal and start blaming Iran. If this scenario is pursued, then they’ll start a consensus against Iran, trying to bring countries like Russia and China to their side.”
Izadi Followed that at the moment, the Americans are not in a position of announcing the failure of the talks and said that they’ll wait for a few rounds of talks to proceed and then they’ll declare that the policies and plans made by Iran are unacceptable and later they’ll ask for unity against Tehran. Europeans will naturally follow the Americans because they’re unable to confront the US on economic and security grounds. “Practically, they’re against such a move.”
Reza Sadrolhosseini was our other guest in this show who pointed out that some of the countries of the region had tried to cross their limits by asking to be included in these talks. “It’s an indication of the importance of the nuclear talks. If the results are following our national interests, it will lead to an increase in the strength of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the region.”
He further added that it shouldn’t be assumed that the removal of the sanctions which is the main topic of these talks, won’t affect the regional issues. “Our negotiators must bring the current achievements of the resistance groups into the game. The regional problems and the subject of the resistance are interconnected with all the international issues.”
Sadrolhosseini added that our negotiating team has maintained an analytic and professional attitude in different fields which is a clear indication that Iran has taken the negotiations seriously. The negotiators pursue the removal of the sanctions as their central demand. “Any other result other than this won’t satisfy the Iranians, because the Western side of the deal had guaranteed the removal of the sanctions in the JCPOA.”
He pointed out the reasons behind Iran’s decision to take part in these talks and said that primarily Iran wanted to prove that the agreements and obligations are being respected on its side and then that the Iranian nation understands that the current Iranian Government and its negotiators pursue the national interests of the country and that they’re not after negotiations for the sake of negotiations.
