A political analyst has said that the US and EU were trying to corner Iran during the negotiations; meanwhile blaming Tehran for bringing the talks to a dead-end.
In this episode of our political show “Bedoone KhatKhordegi” we discussed the Vienna talks and the conditions put by both sides of the talks with political commentator Seyed Mostafa Khoshcheshm.
He pointed out that two months before the new round of meetings, Iran became a target of negative propagation. “We were blamed for not taking interest in negotiations. It was a move to pressurize Tehran to succumb to the American demands during the meetings.”
Khoshcheshm emphasized that the Western countries didn’t expect such an active response from Tehran and said that by offering two drafts, the Iranian negotiators were in the driver’s seat. After the moves made by the Foreign Secretaries of the US and the UK, the Western countries expected that Iran will move into a defensive position and will reject every framework and demand a new negotiating structure.
He also reiterated that a blame game against Iran was about to start but the European Troika was shocked by the two new drafts prepared by Iran. “These were not completely new because they were written per the JCPOA which itself is a mutual agreement between the signatories of this deal.”
Khoscheshm further said that the new Iranian negotiators, edited some of the phrases and clauses of the previous draft prepared during the sixth round of the Vienna talks which violated the Nuclear Deal.
“During the previous rounds of negotiations, it was stated that in case of any difference and to avoid any standstill, both the sides will write down their expectations while leaving blank the solution part. They agreed to move to the next topic until complimentary meetings are set. Therefore, lots of blank brackets were left for the future.”
Khoshcheshm who has expertise in international politics also said that it's stated in the previous draft that none of the past issues will be finalized unless a deal is reached. “The current team of negotiators has raised the issue of those blank brackets in the new draft.”
