Radio Goftogoo had a phone call interview with Massoud Barati about the Vienna talks.

Massoud Barati, an Iranian expert on international affairs, regarding Iran's strong logic in the negotiations. Barati explained; “Iran has been fully committed to its obligations under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and even passed the verifications, therefore there stands a quite clear logic behind our country’s demands for receiving a solid guarantee of the West, as well as receiving compensation for the US unilateral withdrawal from the JCPOA.”

At the same time, he stressed that the United States and Europe are reluctant to accept the reality; “They have been recently insisting that we should reach a conclusion within a few weeks, but there’s a behavioral contradiction among them since the talks are closed for a few days due to Christmas holidays.”

He continued; “They know very well that Iran's logic is strong and that they may be the accused in these equations, and they are attempting so that the negotiations would reach a deadlock. That’s because in this way they get out of the main discussion, but Iran, China and Russia consider the negotiations logical.”

He then spoke of the possible outcome of the talks and mentioned; “Indeed it’s difficult to predict the outcome of these talks, but it seems that we shouldn’t expect anything special in the short term. Of course, the fact that the negotiations are still going on is a positive point, especially since the talks take place within the framework of the text provided by Iran.”

“We know the United States well, and based on our knowledge, we can say that the time the Americans feel that the path of negotiations does not meet their demands and needs, they plan to sabotage the negotiation’s process. We have had this experience in previous years, and we especially observed this conduct in the case of the JCPOA,” Added Barati.

He noted that the State Department spokesman announced progress in the talks, adding that “The United States has a need for negotiation and is interested in reaching an agreement, but on the other hand does not want the agreement to be fair and compensate those damages imposed on Iran.”
