A Political Analyst has said that due to the fluctuating US stance regarding the nuclear deal, any anticipation about the future of the talks is difficult. He also explained the possible Iranian moves in case of a no-deal.
In an interview with the “Rooydad” Program, Political commentator Nozar Shafeie described the process of the Vienna Talks; “Generally, the eighth round of negotiations have been more optimistic than before. Generally, it happened because of Iran’s serious distrust towards the 4+1 which put the other side in an answering position.
He also emphasized that Iran hasn’t received any convincing answer so far; “Iran has the political will for concluding the basic issues which resulted in the eighth round of talks getting easier.”
According to Shafeie presently, a positive or a negative outlook is impossible and the talks are still in an indefinite position.
He further pointed out that both sides of the negotiations have their interpretation of the JCPOA and said that if the Nuclear Deal was dead, Iran wouldn’t implement its obligations anymore; Iran has chosen to abide by the rules, therefore, if the other side returns to deal, the JCPOA can continue with its life.
“When the US left the nuclear deal, there wasn’t any reason for Iran to stay too; but Iran insisted on playing by the rules of the deal. Iran had only retreated from some of its obligations; if the US rejoins the plan of action, the problem is solved.”
Shafiei further said that the complicated interpretation is because of the Western demand of adding some other issues to the JCPOA, which has made the talks tough.
“On the other hand, Iran is seriously concerned about the verification process of the American moves and the assurance that they won’t leave the deal again.”
He also pointed out the threatening tone of the Republicans regarding their undermining of the JCPOA and said that Iran is forced to put forward strict measures so the previous bitter result is not repeated. But the new expectation has made the implementation process complicated.
Nozar Shafeie added that Iran has also indicated its reciprocal moves in case of a no-deal and said that Iran is the one with the clearest position; “To address our civil demands, we have our peaceful nuclear program. If our demands are not met, we will continue with our nuclear process and this time without the limitations imposed by the JCPOA. If these talks are not fruitful, we must try our best to bypass the sanctions and minimize its impressions.”
