Radio Goftogoo had a phone call interview with Dr. Mostafa Khoshchashm, the Iranian political expert, regarding the Vienna talks.
Mostafa Khoshchashm stated that over the past month, Iran had taken the initiative to force the Western parties to move forward on the basis of Iran's plan; “Until the 6th round of Vienna talks which took place in the previous government, the Western parties didn’t agree on concepts such as verification and especially guarantees. Until three months ago, the Americans were saying that not only the next US administration, but even Biden's own administration might withdraw from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Actio (JCPOA) after the agreement.”
He spoke of the negotiating teams accept for guarantying the lift of all sanctions in case of reaching an agreement, and said; “This initial step, though being insufficient, is considered a positive on.
The political expert pointed to the Americans' insistence on reciprocal action by Iran and stated; “This request of the Americans existed until the 6th round of Vienna talks. This request was to the detriment of Iran because Iran's actions are actual and the actions of the Western side are considered potential. The centrifuges will be destroyed if they are dismantled by Iran. This is while the Westerners actions are only on paper and signatures.
He stressed; “After the signing of the JCPOA and at the very beginning of it, the US President, Barack Obama cheated because he only lifted the sanctions on paper and in practice violated the JCPOA.”
“Iran initially demanded that the sanctions should be lifted in accordance with the JCPOA, and after making sure that we could sell oil and bring the money back to the country, Iran would fulfill its obligations,” Khoshchashm mentioned in this interview with Radio Goftogoo. “This request is currently accepted. The United States agreed that Iran will, at some point in time, verify Western commitments.”
The political expert continued; “The United States said that the opportunity to verify the sale of oil can last for only two days, which wasn’t naturally accepted by Iran because the sale of oil requires a longer time; loading oil and ensuring that port sanctions are lifted, ship traffic, insurance activities, cargo arriving at the destination, and earning money for oil sales through the bank are all time-consuming steps.”
At the same time, he spoke of the great resistance of the West against Iran's demands and said; “The Iranian team offers different initiatives and solutions, but the Western side sometimes neither accept these solutions nor come with a solution themselves, and it’s for slowing down the process of negotiations.”
