In the latest episode of the “Bedoone Khatkhordegi” Show, the Former diplomat and spokesperson of the Foreign Ministry Hamid Reza Asefi explained Iran’s diplomatic moves in Vienna.
During the initial part of the interview, Hamidreza Asefi pointed out the long history of the western colonial powers’ attempts against the Iranian nation and said that the Britons brought Reza Shah to power; when he showed some signs of inclination towards the Germans, they dragged him down. “Mohammad Reza was the next who was awarded the throne by Britain and after that, the Americans left him to die. Shah had stated in his book “Answer to the history” that “I provided so many services to the Americans but they betrayed me.”
Asefi also called the book “Memories of Alam” written by Shah's Court Minister another book that sheds light on Iran’s foreign policy during Shah’s Reign. “Alam has stated that during the Vietnam War, the Americans called Shah and asked for a squadron of the Iranian F5 fighters to be deployed to Vietnam to assist the Americans. Alam says that he could not believe that Shah would accept their demands so quickly. 20 minutes later the Air force was ordered to send the fighters to Vietnam.
The former spokesperson of the Foreign Ministry stated that the situation changed after the Islamic Revolution succeeded. “Today we have an independent foreign policy and do not pay ransom to anyone. A western diplomat once told me that Iran is a precious jewel which slipped out of the American hands.”
Asefi called enticement and threat as the principles of the US Foreign Policy and said that the Americans use them regularly to reach their targets.
Senior diplomat Hamid Reza Asefi told our host that some of the sanctions which targeted our civil nuclear installments were removed during the Trump period saying that these sanctions should’ve been removed from the first day because the civil nuclear installments are solely a technical issue. Asefi called the American step positive but also insufficient.
Iran’s former spokesperson of the Foreign Ministry explained the moves and positive signals sent by Washington and called in accordance with their final target. “The Americans take these measures to create a conditional mindset in Iranians. They want to make them obsessed with the deal. If they succeed in creating such a reaction, Iran’s economy will suffer if an agreement is not signed; thus, the foreign exchange rate which had dropped during the past few days will rise again quickly.”
Hamidreza Asefi further said that by raising the expectations of the Iranian public, Washington is after pressurizing Tehran’s negotiating team into a deal with the US and the West. “Therefore, Iran’s active diplomacy shouldn’t be influenced by the deadlines announced by the Western governments. The Americans are obliged to provide necessary and verifiable guarantees.”
