University Lecturer Dr. Vahid Shaqaaqi had joined Radio Goftogoo’s “Bedoone Khat-Khordegi” show through a telephone call where a discussion on the Islamic Revolution and its developmental horizon was going on.

Dr. Vahid Shaqaaqi said that the Shah’s regime was extremely dependent on the West and his political and economic subordination paved the way for the uprising.
Professor of Economics pointed out the financial condition of the general public during the Pahlavi era and said that the inequality index, the Gini coefficient had crossed the 0.5 thresholds. “We may better understand the situation of the 1970’s Iran if we study the memoirs of the officials of the Pahlavi Regime. “Asadollah Alam’s memories” and conversations of AaliKhani are recommended.”

Shaqaaqi further explained that “Alam” had confessed that inequality, polarization was visible and Hoveyda’s Government was so weak in dealing with disorders and lack of goods. “Dishonesty and the economic disparity were reaching new peaks which were confirmed by the Shah’s statesmen and also by the facts and figures.”

He emphasized that we must take a lesson from the blunders of the Pahlavi era saying: “Although massive development has happened after the Revolution in the fields of construction of bridges, roads, hospitals, and education centers and other fields, still we must try our best to stop the inequalities, corruption, and favoritism.”

Shaqaaqi also told Radio Goftogoo that after the Revolution, our country has gained mentionable advancement in the sector of Information Technology. “Today, most of our rural villages have note-worthy access to information technology infrastructure including telecommunications and internet services. Although weak points and shortcomings in the managerial fields can’t be ignored which has barred us from greater achievements but the advancements are visible.”

Dr. Vahid Shaqaaqi called the 8 years of war imposed on Iran another great challenge that put enormous pressure on the country. “It was among the lengthiest wars of the previous century which was imposed on us by both the Super-powers of the time.”
