Radio Goftogoo had phone call interview with Hussein Afrakhteh, the Iranian international affairs expert regarding the Americans approach in the Vienna talks to influence the outcome of the negotiations.

Hussein Afrakhteh explained about the Americans' goals for creating a specific atmosphere in the Vienna talks; “The Americans set a strategy called" losing game "on the agenda from the beginning. Accordingly, the Americans intended to blame everything on Iran in case the talks failed, and they decided to do this through statements by their officials as well as through the media.”

He pointed to the temporary lifting of several sanctions of Iran peaceful nuclear program and stated; “The Americans tried to indicate that the ball is in Iran's ground and the United States is ready to implement the agreement, but if no agreement is reached, Iran is to blame.”

The international affairs expert pointed to the US pressures on Iran and the atmosphere in the negotiations; “The US set a deadline and schedule in this regard. This was opposed by Iran, and even Russia and China, since what matters is reaching an agreement.

In his interview with Radio Goftogoo, Afrakhteh said that imposing pressure on Iran in the Vienna talks is the way the West has chosen to reach an agreement based on its demands; “The talks have been held in two rounds so far. Due to several breaks, the second round is also divided into several parts. On the eve of the third round of negotiations, it became such that, according to the different sides, the talks have reached a technical level of saturation. So what can end the negotiations, regardless of the outcome, is political decisions made in the capitals.”

He emphasized the political atmosphere inside the United States has become bipolar over the last two years of Trump’s presidency; “It’s not just about Iran, and many major domestic and foreign policy issues have become a hotbed of factional rivalry and bipolarity. These dipoles are clearly seen in American society, the people and the government, and in the body of apolitical elites.

The international affairs expert stressed that the issue of Iran is one of the contentious issues between the Republicans and Democrats; “A group of Republicans stated that if an agreement is reached and not presented to Congress, it will not be legal. Nevertheless, if it is presented to the US Congress, they will definitely not allow it to be approved.”
