He said, “When we face a country like the United States which holds a veto power in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) and has repeatedly broken its promises with Iran and the rest of world, then having a guarantee will become a necessity for us. For example, during Donald Trump’s presidency, the United States breached more than 10 international treaties that were approved by the Congress.”

Khoshchashm pointed out that the Americans were talking about a deadline of a month or two prior to the start of the negotiations, and as part of their media propaganda had talked about a deadline even before the current Iranian administration of President Seyyed Ebrahim Raeisi took office and entered the talks, because they had anticipated exhaustive rounds of negotiations.

He noted the repeated extension of the deadline which the Americans have now set for the February end.

According to the Iranian expert, the Westerners in their setting of a deadline had resorted to a time-wasting tactics on the assumption that Iran, under pressure, would give up its demands for lifting of the post-JCPOA sanctions and the sanctions imposed while the agreement was being signed, since among the other justified demands of the Islamic Republic is verification or fact-checking (of the withdrawal of sanctions) in addition to having written guarantee that the nuclear agreement will not be breached.

He said, “Over the past 20 years, the West, including the United States and Europe, had signed more than six agreements of varying degrees with Iran, and have acknowledged that they never kept their promises. Iran on the other hand has been at the negotiating table all these years to reach a solution with them, but the Western side has entered the negotiations not to resolve the issue, but – as what they like to say – to contain Iran.”

Khoshchashm regarded the sanctions on Iran as the only tool of the West to contain Iran and said, “They intend to keep the sanctions in order to enter a new phase of negotiations and the US considers this as its strategic model for any future accord. On the one hand, the United States and the West will play a game of observing the accord, but all of a sudden will undermine everything in line with their vested interests.”
