Iran’s former diplomat Ahmad Dastmalchian says that Europe’s reaction reveals the severity of the situation for Bin Salman who’s now under serious pressure. Either he must quit or revise his previous policies.
Talking to our show “Bedoune Khatkhordegi” Ahmad Dastmalchian explained the reasons behind the Europeans declining to officially meet with the Saudi Crown prince.
Iran’s Former charge de affairs in Saudi Arabia said that it’s for the first time that a Saudi high official is facing such a situation. “Biden had already targeted Muhammad Bin Salman during his electoral speeches and called him the main culprit behind Khashoggi’s cold-blooded Murder; when he took the office, the Democrats released the report which made MBS responsible for this pity act. It created a lot of havoc inside the US. Although these papers were prepared during the previous American administration, Trump had prevented its distribution; But now the Europeans have raised the issue again.”
Dastmalchian added that MBS created a lot of fluctuations inside the Saudi Monarch system. “He hadn’t followed the conventional path to the throne which indicates a war of power within the House of Saud; This conflict and the following crisis is likely to be continued.
The situation is just the calm before the storm.”
He further added that the European reaction indicates that the situation is extremely serious. MBS has to leave or revise his policies and realign himself with the Europeans and the Americans.
Dastmalchian insisted that the crisis won’t leave the Saudis alone. “A calm future is not foreseeable for them. Salman is the last King of the Abdul Aziz Dynasty. The first generation held the throne the normal way; Thus, after Salman, a change of generation will lead to a big crisis which is already visible. Several princes are under arrest.”
He further added that the shockwaves of generational transfer of power can be felt and the Europeans are reacting to it. “Bin Salman is under their surveillance; They want to know that if he’s able to change himself according to their requirements or somebody else has to succeed the current King.”
