Pir Mohammad Mollazehi had joined our live show "Rooydad" where the Afghan crisis was being discussed. He said that a team led by Abdullah Abdullah is visiting Qatar where a peace dialogue with Taliban is being held.

"Taliban has offered 3 months of a ceasefire on some conditions; They’ve demanded the release of 7 thousand of their prisoners and leaders being cleared from the UN's blacklist."

Mollazehi added that the Afghan government has not agreed upon this initiative yet because they claim that they have captured a large chunk of land, back from Taliban." On the other side, Taliban asserts that they have vast areas still under their influence."

He said differences remain between multiple bodies of the Afghan administration. “These disagreements can be categorized into two sections. The first one is the difference of opinion and the second one is the power struggle; If the Afghans are after a lasting peace and harmony then all the competitive offices must reach a definite conclusion.”

Mollazehi further added that none of the indicators show a promising result. “The UN must make an extra effort regarding this issue, so all the parties can be brought to the table.”

He also pointed out that at the moment three meetings are being held simultaneously for the peace to restore. “One is in Turkey, the other one in Qatar and the third meeting is being held in Tehran and all of them intend to find a political solution to the Afghan crisis.”

“Everyone knows that the armed solution is not possible at all; however, if Taliban resorts to the military attacks, then this country will possibly be dragged to a vast and a lengthy civil war.”

He said if such a situation occurs then the future will become unclear and non-predictable. “On the other hand, with the help of technological tools, the US has recoursed towards an indirect interference and remote intervention in Afghanistan.”

Mollazehi believes that the US won’t abandon Afghanistan, because it will convey a message of defeat to its enemies. “They imagine that in case of a retreat, this country will be presented to the enemies of the United States.” He added.

Mollazehi also told our host that the US knows very well that the era of militarism is over and an armed takeover of Afghanistan is out of the question, at least for the coming years.
