“The US forces were present in Afghanistan for two decades claiming to fight terrorism, but all they did was destroying the country's infrastructure,” Abid said.
Radio Ghofgoo's "Political Dialogue" had a phone call interview with Suleiman Abid, the university professor and secretary of Iran International Relations Institute, where he explained and examined Afghanistan’s changes and the Islamic Republic of Iran’s political and security necessities.
Suleiman Abid stated that Afghanistan has gone through various crises in a period of 40 years; “Since the fall of General Dawood and the communist governments, Afghanistan’s governing systems has been under collapse for more than 4 decades, which had consequences for the people of Afghanistan, neighboring countries and the international system.”
He emphasized that the United Nations and the Security Council had no international will to resolve the crisis in Afghanistan; “The US forces were present in Afghanistan for two decades claiming to fight terrorism, but all they did was destroying the country's infrastructure. Keeping their troops in the country for 20 years, the United States left nothing but the destruction of Afghanistan's security and progress.”
In his interview with Radio Goftogo, this university professor pointed to Afghanistan's return to 70 years ago due to Soviet and US invasions and civil wars; "Regretfully, Afghanistan has no economic advantages today, neither any domestic or international aid is being provided to this country. On the other hand, unfortunately, the incumbent government, Ashraf Ghani's government, could not gain popularity inside Afghanistan because it did nothing to develop the country. Besides, Ashraf Ghani failed to negotiate with his opposition groups and couldn’t solve the problems.”
He noted that before the US withdrawal from Afghanistan, the Taliban had only 10 to 15 governorates in the country; “As soon as US troops began to leave the country, the Taliban quickly took over Afghanistan. Instead of solving Afghanistan's problems, Ashraf Ghani traveled to the United States with his deputy, Abdullah Abdullah, in the hope that they would be able to solve Afghanistan's problems, when basically no US president has never had any will to solve Afghanistan's problems.”
Regarding the negotiations between the Afghan government and the Taliban, he said; “The Afghan government is in a weak position in its negotiations with the Taliban. While it was even rumored that Hamid Karzai would be present at the talks, he returned halfway to show that the Afghan government was seriously weak.”
The secretary of Iran’s International Relations Institute stressed that the Taliban may be good winners, but for sure they can’t be good rulers; “In the past, they have proven that they are by no means good rulers and cannot bring prosperity and salvation to the people of Afghanistan. Ruling a country calls for a set of political, cultural, social, economic and international relations skills. Of course, the Taliban have grown well in diplomacy over the past two decades. Before, they were totally unfamiliar with English language while today, they speak it fluently.”
Abid also spoke about arming the Taliban forces; “Undoubtedly, the Taliban weapons have not appeared out of thin air, but there are countries that have strengthened and even trained the Taliban militarily and logistically.”
