In our latest “Bedoune Khatkhordegi” show we discussed the latest clash of interests that has emerged between the Saudi and Emirati monarchs.

Hasan Hanizade called these differences fundamental which have its roots in the regional and border-related issues and Riyadh’s continuous intrusions. “Besides these 50 years old clashes, there are Persian Gulf Co-operation Council related divisions which are considered as one of the most serious issues diverting these two countries.”

He also said that the UAE considers itself in a superior political and economic position than the Saudis and has tried to play a deeper role in the regional conflicts. “So naturally, the Saudis can’t tolerate it.”

Hasan Hanizadeh continued that these discords were intensified during 2019 when the UAE pulled out its troops from Yemen. “The Emirati forces had stood beside the Riyadh forces during the offensive but suddenly chose to pursue its policies and support the so-called Southern Transitional Council of Yemen. It became the starting point of the divergence.”

He referred to the report released by the “Strator” Institute which has indicated that the Emirates and Saudi Arabia will sever their relations and the two will get engaged in a serious confrontation very soon. “The differences exist in the field of the economy because AbuDhabi is seriously concerned about the trade policies which Bin Salman has put into effect against it. He wants to weaken the UAE economically.”
