In an interview with Radio Goftogoo, an Iranian nuclear expert spoke of France's desire to play the role of a mediator between Iran and the P5 + 1 on the JCPOA, stressing that the mediator should be neutral and fulfill its obligations first.
In a live phone call interview with "Rouydad" program, when asked whether France will facilitate the negotiations or not, Hassan Beheshtipour said; “The fact is that France has serious conflicts on the Australian nuclear submarine contract with the United States and Britain.”
He pointed to the impending meeting between Biden and Macron and the resolution of this issue; “France is not in a position to resolve the JCPOA problems with the United States.”
“The US didn’t fulfill its commitments since leaving the nuclear deal, and even imposed a series of new sanctions during this period.”
Beheshtipour reminded; “The assessment of the Iranian Foreign Minister was that the Europeans are concerned about the progress of Iran's nuclear program, and for this reason they want to start negotiations as soon as possible so that Iran's nuclear capability stops at this stage.”
He stated; “As long as Iran's nuclear activities are under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency, we pursue 100% peaceful goals. Iran has nothing to hide, and there is no need to worry when the IAEA reports on the smallest detail of Iran's nuclear activities every three months.”
“The European side should not worry at all, because Iran's nuclear activities are under the control of the IAEA.”
According to Beheshtipour, the negotiations aren’t basically a problem, and the significant issue involves the subject of negotiation and its axes.”
“At the moment, the European Union, the United States and Russia are insisting that the talks start where they were left off in the sixth round. They are willing to restart the negotiations, but Iran has officially stated that we are reconsidering the approaches towards the JCPOA, and that we’ll soon take the necessary measures.”
The nuclear expert blamed the closeness between Britain and the United States, and the deal with Australia, for upsetting the balance of power in East Asia; “This deal is a potential nuclear threat.”
“On the other hand, France's agreement with Australia has been annulled, and therefore the West’s dispute is not only over Iran, but also includes international positions.”
Beheshtipour, meanwhile, spoke of France's desire to play the role of a mediator between Iran and the P4 + 1, stressing that the mediator should be neutral and fulfill its obligations first.
