"We used the viewpoints of the private sector and organizations in preparing Iran-China cooperation document, and at our insistence, the issue of deepening trade and economic relations between the two countries was included in this document in the form of a paragraph,” said the chairman for Iran-China Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industries.
In an interview with “Economic Dialogue”, Majid Reza Hariri, chairman for Iran-China Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industries, spoke about the role of oil and energy in the Iran-China Comprehensive Cooperation Program, and its role in reducing crude oil sales.
Hariri stressed that no treaty has been signed yet and said; “This is a comprehensive program for cooperation between Iran and China, on which the two countries reached an agreement, meaning that Iran's proposals for long-term cooperation have been submitted and China has accepted them.”
When asked about Iran-China cooperation agreement and the role it plays in the region's economy, he replied; “I don’t think we can work with the Chinese in a third country, because the Chinese have previously reached to an agreement with all the countries in the region that possess oil and energy reserves, and as a rule, each country tries to use this opportunity for itself.
Regarding agreements and cooperation with China in the fields of oil and gas, petrochemicals, exploration, exploitation and processing in all fields, the chairman for Iran-China Chamber of Commerce explained; “Such agreements were already made, but what will happen in practice is defined by the projects, and each of them calls for separate negotiations.”.
"It is definitely wrong to think that we can achieve all our aspirations in this program of cooperation with China, because we have defined a capacity for cooperation with this country and we can work in defined areas," emphasized Hariri.
Regarding the role of the private sector and organizations in determining the framework of a win-win cooperation between Iran and China, he stated; “When writing the draft for this document, we used the viewpoints of the private sector and organizations, and at our insistence, the issue of deepening trade and economic relations between the private sectors of the two countries was included in this document as a paragraph.”
The chairman for Iran-China Chamber of Commerce noted that our private sector isn’t active in the oil and gas sector, and it’s mostly the governmental and state-owned companies which operate at high levels in this field; “the private sector can profit from this field by the level of its presence.”
