“13th government’s Foreign Ministry Should Have a Commercial Perspective,” Said Tutunchi on Radio Goftogoo.

"If our future government's Foreign Ministry doesn’t have a commercial, international and economic perspective on export development companies, success in economic diplomacy will be impossible," noted an Iranian economic expert.

According to Radio Goftogoo news site, Dr. Saeed Tutunchi Maleki, an expert on economic issues, had an interview on ‘economic diplomacy in Iran’s 13th government’ with "Economic Dialogue" program.

"Without economic backgrounds, establishing political, social and cultural relations in today's world is either very difficult or unsustainable," said Tutunchi.

"Today, different countries seek to benefit the most of their global relations regardless of the economic fronts,” he added.

On the concept of economic diplomacy, Tutunchi explained that all policy-making, planning, governing, executive, formal and informal, private and public institutions should strive to shape international economic relations in a way that ultimately benefits the national economy in the short term, and they should define and guarantee a reasonable time frame with a certain efficiency.

He stressed that our view of national authority and security should stem from an economic, security and political perspective; “We can get around the toughest sanctions via a capital orientation due to the comparative advantages of our national economy, especially in the field of energy.”

"We’re not going to make friendly relations with all the countries in the world, and we’re not going to trade with all the countries, but the interaction should be based on strengthening the comparative advantages, economic security and with a long-term view," said the Iranian economic expert.

Tutunchi then emphasized that approaches towards economic diplomacy should be technical; “If we shape our economic institutions with a broader goal than that for a population of 80 million, and work on the basis of comparative advantage, even the toughest sanctions will not affect our economic diplomacy.”

"All over the world, instead of managing imports and exports, governments provide the domestic business environment and form export development companies to produce and strengthen goods," he said.

The expert on economic issues remarked; "If our future government’s Foreign Ministry does not have a commercial, international and economic perspective on export development companies, success in economic diplomacy will be impossible and it will definitely fail."
