Radio Goftogoo had a phone call interview with “Dr. Mehdi Rohani” (Faculty Member of the Emerging Diseases Research Center at Pasteur Institute/Iran, and in charge of external quality control of Covid-19 testing labs) around evaluating the external quality of Covid-19 testing labs. The interview was aired by ‘Rozaneh’ program.
“My colleagues in laboratories had a very difficult year”, said Mehdi Rohani in interview with Rozaneh.
He mentioned that Covid-19 testing labs network was formed in February in Iran; “Fortunately, testing labs’ facilities and scientific founds related to Corona disease were developed throughout the country in a short period of time.”
The Iranian Covid-19 project manager explained about evaluating the external quality of Covid-19 testing labs; “The result of Covid-19 tests taken of different individuals in different regions affects the process of life and management of a city or a country, because the cities are ranked from white to red based on positive or negative statistics and tests results.”
"Covid-19 tests are being evaluated today," he confirmed, "Over the testing skill process, we evaluate the tests and result process to fix any possible problems."
“Up to now, about 400 labs across the country have successfully passed Covid-19 testing skills course", added Mehdi Rohani, "the model for Covid-19 testing skills in Iran is much stricter than the models announced by the World Health Organization.”
“Patients who are hospitalized for coronavirus infection host a large amount of the virus in their body, so tests taken of these people have a small percentage of error,” said the Faculty Member of the Emerging Diseases Research Center at Pasteur Institute.

He also confirmed that Covid-19 testing labs are separate from other laboratory environments; “Separating other laboratories from Covid-19 testing labs was one of the best things we did in the country.”
