Amir Ghaemi said on Radio Goftgoo: “Multiple mutations of coronavirus change the vaccine production schedule around the world.”
Radio Goftgoo’s ‘Rozaneh’ program had a phone call interview with Dr. Amir Ghaemi (Secretary of Iranian Society for Virology and Associate Professor at Pasteur Institute in Iran) about the characteristics of the Indian and African variants of coronavirus.
Amir Ghaemi explained about the pattern of viral mutations and noted; “Naturally, any kind of virus experiences several mutations and changes in its life cycle.”
He then mentioned that the mutated virus is actually a new one; “Coronavirus spread first in China and then all around the world and in different countries, where it changed to new variants including ‘African’, ‘Brazilian’, ‘Indian’, ‘British’ and ‘California’.”
The secretary of Iranian Society for Virology stated that coronavirus has a treacle protein in its structure; “This treacle protein unlocks the surface of the body cells which are the recipients of the virus.”
He continued; “If the virus mutation improves the function of the treacle protein, the transmission and infectivity of the virus will increase.”
Amir Ghaemi added; “The increase of Covid-19 transmission rate in new variants leads to a rise in death and infection rate around the world.”
*The Indian Coronavirus causes more infections.
He then explained about the Indian coronavirus; “The Indian corona is a combination of ‘South African’, ‘Brazilian and ‘California’ variants.”
“The Indian Corona mutation is expected to increase the transmission and infectivity of the virus,” said the associate professor at Pasteur Institute.
He added; “The African Coronavirus Is Less Susceptible to Antibodies.”
Referring to the vaccine’s effects on novel variants of the virus, Amir Ghaemi explained; “Seemingly most corona vaccines don’t work well against the South African variant.”
“Multiple mutations in coronavirus change the vaccine production schedule around the world,” he said.
In another part of his remarks on ‘Rozaneh’ program, the Secretary of Iranian Society for Virology noted; “The general public can prevent all types of Covid-19 variants by observing sanitary standards and restrictions.”
