"In terms of fatality rate, there is no significant difference between the India variant and other covid-19 variants, the only difference between this type and other variants of Covids-19 is the higher transmission rate,”
Radio Goftogo had a phone call interview with Dr. Amir Ghaemi, Secretary of Iran Virology Association and associate professor at Iran Pasteur Institute, regarding the latest corona condition in the country which was broadcast by “Morning Dialogue”.
Amir Ghaemi stated that from the initial stages of its spread, the corona virus was able to grow by causing different mutations and variations; “Over the past few months, in addition to the main virus that initiated in China, we have witnessed different variants of Covid-19 including British, African and recently the India variant.”
Explaining about the differences between these variants, he mentioned; “The most important difference between variants of Covid-19 is the virus transmission rate. In fact, changes in the virus major proteins level makes it easier for it to bind its own cellular receptor, thus we expect the spread of the virus to be facilitated and the transmission rate increase accordingly.”
Secretary of Iran Virology Association then spoke about the mortality rate of the India variant; “In terms of fatality rate, there is no significant difference between India variant and other variants of Covid-19.”
The faculty member and associate professor of Iran Pasteur Institute also emphasized that the health recommendations are the same as before; “We have been dealing with this virus for nearly 16 months and this issue wore people out and therefore, observing health protocols has decreased; as a result, the spread of the virus is faster.”

"We still recommend that people wear masks in public places and maintain social distancing," stressed Ghaemi, “when the air conditioners are working in closed places, use the necessary ventilation and in this regard, it is necessary to leave some windows open. In addition to these measures, through testing, tracking and treatment, we expect to overcome this new variant of the virus, which calls for the cooperation and attention of all our dear people.”
