Technical Deputy Chief of Customs of Islamic Republic of Iran Mehrdad Arunaqi stated that 71 million doses of imported vaccines have been cleared through the customs; 83 percent of the total shipment was released during the past month and a half.
Mehrdad Arunaqi had joined our “Bedoone Khatkhordegi” show where the Import of Vaccines was being discussed.
He said this consignment included six million doses of vaccine, which was the thirty-fourth shipment of the Chinese Vials.
Arunaqi told our host that since last February, we had received fifty-seven shipments of Corona Vaccines. Thirty-four of them originated from China. The rest of the Vaccines were from Japan, Italy, Russia, South Korea, Austria, and India.
“Until now, 71 million doses of Vials have been cleared off by the Department of Customs. Each shipment was cleared-off within minutes of reaching Iran; The Cargo containers loaded with Vaccines were released and given to the Ministry of Health officials, immediately after getting off-loaded from the Aircraft.”
He further said that from mid-summer we had an increasing trend of vaccine import where multi-million doses were reaching the country every week. “83 percent of the Vaccines were imported from July onwards while the rest of the vaccines were imported in the 6 months leading to July 2021.
Arunaqi added that according to the Ministry of Health and Red Crescent Organization, millions of Corona Vaccine doses are on their way to Iran while the Department of Customs will release them immediately after they’re received. “None of the consignments faced any obstruction during the paperwork. Most of the vaccines had their papers ready a day or two before the shipment date.”
Answering a question regarding the number of vaccines that must be received in the future he said that the accurate numbers should be provided by the Ministry of Health. “It should be according to the necessity but I assume that we will receive 30 to 40 million doses of Covid Vaccines during this month and the next.”
Iran’s Deputy Director of Customs also said that a few consignments of Johnson & Johnson and Pfizer vaccines have also received the necessary import license from the Health Ministry which will reach the country in a week or two.
